Party Adventures
Games that carry a whole evening.
Most party games last four minutes and then somebody has to start the next one. An adventure is the opposite trade: ten minutes of setup buys you an hour where the children run the room and the adults sit down.
The thing that decides whether that hour works is what happens to the child who is not fastest. In a quiz, they stop answering by question three. In a hunt with parallel trails or a mystery with four different kinds of clue, there is a moment where the room waits for them, and that moment is what they tell people about afterwards.
Plan for arrivals being staggered and for one child who does not want to join in yet. Something to look at on the table when they walk in, a job that can be picked up late, and no scoring. A party adventure that keeps score turns into an argument about the score roughly twenty minutes in.
